$\displaystyle \frac{X^{14}}{X^7}= \frac{X(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)}{X( X)(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)}= X(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)(X)= X^7$

because the 7 "X"s in the denominator cancel 7 of the 14 "X"s in the numerator leaving 14- 7= 7 "X"s.
