1. ## help factor

I have this question for practice and I don't understand how to solve for the values.

When the polynomial 4x^ 3+mx^2+nx+11 is divided by x+2, the remainder is -7. When the polynomial is divided by x-1, the remainder is 14. What are the values of n and m?

Thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated.

2. How's your synthetic division? That's all it takes, well, plus a little algebra.

3. When dividing a polynomial $P(x)$ by $x-a$, the remainder is $P(a)$.

In this case we have:
$P(-2)=-7, \ P(1)=14$
So, you have to solve the system

$\left\{\begin{array}{ll}4m-2n=14\\m+n=-1\end{array}\right.$
