Algebra - Pre Test Problems

Hi guys if you can please help, i left my maths text book in my locker at school and not really sure on how to do this problems and i got a test on Monday.

1. Use long devision to divide:

6x^4+10x^3+13x^2-5x+2/2x^2-1

I know how to use long division, but for this one answears dont add up, im thinking maybe theres a type-o in it somewhere?

2. Use synthetic devision to divide:

5x^3+33x^2+50x-8/x+4

Ok for Q2 i got and wondering if its right, 5x^3+53x^2+162x+640/x+4

3. Find all rational zeros of the function:

f(x)=25x^4+25x^3-154x^2-4x+24

4. Given that (1-i) is a zero of the function:

f(x)=4x^4-11x^3+14x^2-6x

Find all the zeros of the function.

Do you really expect us to type up on a computer an algebraic long division?

That would be nice.....

With Q1 do you do something to it before dividing it or put 0 in for missing roots e.g. 0x^3

For no2 5x^3+33x^2+50x-8=(x+4)( ) We need the 2nd bracket

It must clearly start with 5x^2 and end with -2 So our expression=(x+4)(5x^2 +?-2) Clearly ? is an x term

As it stands when multiplied out we have 20x^2. We require +33x^2 So we need another 13x^2 which we will get if we put ?=13x

So we have (x+4)(5x^2+13x-2) ( notice this does give us the +50x we require) So answer is 5x^2+13x-2
