Thread: Algebraic Equations all variables help on problem

Sorry to post such a basic question but I recently started relearning algebra and Im doing ok. I am stumped on this equation and how to solve for x.


a/bx + c/d = e ; x = ?

I have the answer as this x = da/b(ed-c)
Could someone please post the steps to solve this problem in detail so i can wrap my brain around it.

Multiply each term (both sides) by bxd

Get ad+cbx=ebdx So ad= ebdx-cbx So ad= (ebd-cb)x So ad/b(ed-c)=x

If that's the answer, then your 1st term should be a/(bx)
Example:
20 / 2 * 5 = 10 * 5 = 50
20 / (2 * 5) = 20 / 10 = 2
Quite a difference, right!
