# Math Help - Need help with figuring out distances

1. ## Need help with figuring out distances

Hello everyone,

I have a problem. I have a digital map that I have drawn of a fictional city in my paint program. I used a paint tool to measure the width of one of the roads (7.0 pixels). Now I know that a standard two lane road is 20 feet in width. So I figure 7.0 pixels = ~20 feet. The map image is 1488x1062 pixels.

Now, using this information how can I figure out the distance of the entire width of the city map in feet?

7. 0 Pixels = 20 feet
1488 Pixels = $x$ feet

$x$ = $\frac{20 \times 1488}{7}$

$x$ = $4251 \ feet \ approx$

3. if 7pixels = 20ft, then,

(1488 pixels)(20ft/7pixels) = (1488*20)/7 ft = 4251.43 ft

(1062 pixels)(20ft /7pixels) = (1062*20)/7 ft = 3034.29 ft
