p and q are real munbers

Do i slove this equation like a regular simultaneous equations???

Use substitution, rewrite one of the equations for example: $\displaystyle px+4y=8 \Leftrightarrow x=\frac{8-4y}{p}$
Substitute $\displaystyle x$ in the other equation and solve for $\displaystyle y$.

ok so x= 8-4y
p

when Sub back into equation
would this be the end answer

24y + 2y = q - 48
26y = q - 48
y = q - 48/ 26

IS this correct???????????

We know that:
$\displaystyle x=\frac{8-4y}{p}$

If we substitute this into the other equation we obtain:
$\displaystyle 6\left(\frac{8-4y}{p}\right)+2y=q$
$\displaystyle \Leftrightarrow \frac{48-24y+2py}{p}=q$
$\displaystyle \Leftrightarrow 48+y(-24+2p)=pq$
$\displaystyle \Leftrightarrow y=\frac{pq-48}{2p-24}$
