# Math Help - Ratio Question

1. ## Ratio Question

I am having problem solving the following question.

Q)A sum of money is divided among three persons X, Y and Z in the ratio 10 : 7 :5. If Y gets $14 more than Z, how much will X get and what is the total sum of money ? Solution: sum of ratios=22 Let total amount =$x

Ys share= (7/22) * x

Z share = (5/22) * x

after this the solution i cant understand but i will share it here for any help..

14 should have been added to Ys share but in the solution its added to Z s share.

i need guidence from here onward to find the value of Xs share.

Let X, Y, Z represent the amounts each receives. Let T represent the total amount.

Then like you say, X + Y + Z = T, X = 10T/22, Y = 7T/22, Z = 5T/22.

You also know that Y gets \$14 more than Z, so Y = Z + 14 = 5T/22 + 14.

Can you go from here?
