    simplifying algebraic fraction

    Hello, I cannot understand how this fraction is simplified.
    Can someone please explain this process.

    ((-2x^2) - 2x) / (x^4)
    = ((-2x) - 2) / x^3

    Take \frac{-2x^2 - 2x}{x^4} by the distributive law we have: \frac{x(-2x - 2)}{x^4} then we realize that \frac{1}{x} \cdot x = 1 so it simplifies to \frac{-2x - 2}{x^3}
