1. ## Worded problem - price of apples and oranges.

Im not so good at math, but i have a question thet i know the answer too, but i think i have made a wrong way:
an apple = 2 kr (thats the danish valuta)
an orange = 4 kr
I have bought 32 pices for 104 kr
how many oranges have i bought?

I now that he have bought 20 oranges and 12 appels
but do anyone know an easier way i could have gotten to this answer?

You have to solve following system of equations :

$\displaystyle \begin{cases}2x+4y=104 \\x+y=32\end{cases}$

where $\displaystyle y$ is number of oranges and $\displaystyle x$ is number of apples

But how can this give the answer 20 (the number of oranges he bought)?

First divide first equation by $\displaystyle 2$ then substitute$\displaystyle x$ with $\displaystyle 32-y$ so you should get equation:

$\displaystyle 32-y+2y=52$

5. ## Re: Wrong way?

So if you could write it down step by step how would you have done that?
