Here's 2)

$\displaystyle x^2+v=w$

I need to isolate the term with $\displaystyle x$ in it. I can do this by subtracting $\displaystyle v$ from both sides to give:

$\displaystyle x^2=w-v$

And now, I just need to take the square root to obtain:

$\displaystyle x=\sqrt{w-v}$

Note that it should ideally be $\displaystyle |x|$, but I think that's running before we can walk.

Try the others for yourself and show your working if you get confused: it's very similar to this example.
