Quadratics Word Problem (grade11)

I'm really having trouble with 3 word problems.

I won't post all three in one thread, but here's the first one.

__Question: __A golfer hits a ball off the tee at 42m/s. The flag is 183m from the tee in the centre of the green, and the green is round with a radius of 9m. Assume the ball went in the right direction.

Did it land on the green? For this problem use the quadratic function:

y=__ x- 9.8x²__ --------------------------> (so that's y=x-9.8² OVER v²)

......... v²

Where x is the horizontal distance, y is the height of the ball above the ground, and v is the initial velocity of the ball.

Assuming the golfer hit the ball directly toward the t, it will be on the green as long as it goes y= 183- 9= 174 meters. Since you are given that v= 42 m/s, your formula becomes $\displaystyle 174= \frac{x- 9.8x^2}{(42)^2}$.

And if you don't mind, how do you write the equation like that? ... so neat looking :)
