# Thread: How to solve this?

1. ## How to solve this?

Using any (and only) parentheses "e.g: {[()]}" solve this:

2 * 3 * 4 + 12 : 3 - 1 = 16

I have tried all solutions that came in my mind but it was in vain. You guys have any idea on this one?

2. ## Re: How to solve this?

Are you supposed to insert the parentheses yourself? How do we know where they are? Is this linked to a bigger problem?

What does the ':' symbol represent?

3. ## Re: How to solve this?

Yes, you can insert the parentheses by yourself anywhere you want. It is not linked to a bigger problem. This is the whole math problem as you see it.

I can get -16

[EDIT]

I got it...

2*{3*4 + 12:[3 (- 1)]} = 16
