Using any (and only) parentheses "e.g: {[()]}" solve this: 2 * 3 * 4 + 12 : 3 - 1 = 16 I have tried all solutions that came in my mind but it was in vain. You guys have any idea on this one?

Are you supposed to insert the parentheses yourself? How do we know where they are? Is this linked to a bigger problem? What does the ':' symbol represent?

Yes, you can insert the parentheses by yourself anywhere you want. It is not linked to a bigger problem. This is the whole math problem as you see it.
