Stuck on Something Simple - Moving x to the other side

This should be really easy but I've been trying to some of my A-Level homework and I can't get my head around it.

For example.

6root7 - 2x = 5 + (3root7)x

there's more than one way I can seperate the x's, and each way seems to give me different solutions. :(

I can do:

6root7 - 5 = (3root7)x + 2x
-2x - (3root7)x = 5 - 6root7
- (3root7)x - 2x = 5 - 6root7

Is there a special way to do this, am I missing a way to order where each number is placed to make sure I get the right answer?

Should be such as easy question, especially for an A-Level student but a couple of questions like this are catching me out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It doens't matter, but at the end you just need at one side the variable and at the other side the constant numbers.
The answer has to be the same in all the cases you gave.
