I was hoping someone could explain why
3/√x + √x = 3/√x + √x.√x/√X
when then simplifies further to
3+x/√x

Make the addition:
$\displaystyle \frac{3}{\sqrt{x}}+\sqrt{x}=$$\displaystyle \frac{3}{\sqrt{x}}+\frac{\sqrt{x}\cdot \sqrt{x}}{\sqrt{x}}=\frac{3+x}{\sqrt{x}}$
