# Thread: equation of second degree

1. ## equation of second degree

Given : mx^2 - 2(m-1)x +m -7 = 0 where m is non-zero parameter
1) calculate m so that the roots of the equation exist
2)calculate m so that the roots of the equation are opposite
3)can these roots be reciprocals ?

2. ## Re: equation of second degree

Something missing isn't there? What have you done yourself on this?

(An "equation of second degree" is also called a "quadratic equation". Do you know the quadratic formula?)

3. ## Re: equation of second degree

no what quadratic equation , can you solve it plz

4. ## Re: equation of second degree

When does the roots of a quadratic equation exist, if the discriminant D ... 0? (<,>,=)
