# Thread: Solve 2/3(2X-4) = 1/2(X+3)-4

1. ## Solve 2/3(2X-4) = 1/2(X+3)-4

I did everything I could to try and solve this and I cannot get the correct answer. I feel like an absolute idiot. Could anybody please break down these steps for me so I could get the correct answer:

2/3(2X-4) = 1/2(X+3)-4

Thank you so much!

2. ## Re: It has been so long.

I get lost after 4/3x-8/3 = 1/2x+3/2-4

3. ## Re: It has been so long.

Is it this? $\frac{2}{3}\cdot (2x-4) = \frac{1}{2}\cdot (x+3) - 4$

If so, you may just want to multiply the world by 6.

$4\cdot (2x-4) = 3\cdot (x+3) - 24$

That looks WAY easier.

Thank you that is a lot easier, but how do I know to use 6?

EDIT: Ahhhhh LCD! Thanks!
