Thread: How much money did they bring

I don't know how to solve this, and would appreciate some help to get started.


Two pokerplayers, A and B, has lost an equal amount of money.
A has lost and B of the amounts that they brought. B had broght 200 dollars more then A.

How much money did they bring?


Any help would be appreciated.

Let "a" be the amount of money that A brought and let "b" be the amount of money that B brought. Then A lost 1 and B lost dollars. And, we are told, those are equal:

We are also told that "B brought 200 dollars more than A":
b= a+ 200.

Solve those two equations for a and b.
