Consecutive Integers
Hey, there's a problem I stuck on.

Please explain how to actually do this, without making it a big deal like some teachers do. (Giggle)

Problem:

The 6 consecutive integers below add up to 447.

x - 2
x - 1
x
x + 1
x + 2
x + 3

What is the value of x?

F. 72
G. 73
H. 74
J. 75
K. 76

Re: Consecutive Integers
Ok, thanks. If you may confirm, 6x because there are 6 consecutive integers, which add up, (or as I'd like to say, equal) to 447, and the 3 stands for what exactly?

If you add all six terms in that column, what term do you get.

Re: Consecutive Integers
-2 + -1 = -3

-3 + 1 = -2

-2 + 2 = 0
0 + 3 = 3

I have no idea what that is all about.
You need direct tutorial help.

Okay, you are adding -2+ (-1)+ 0+ 1+ 2+ 3, pairwise. Now, do you see where that "3" came from?

x - 2
x - 1
x
x + 1
x + 2
x + 3
_____
6x+ 3

You asked him to add the numbers on the right and he did- getting the correct sum, 3.

I used the word terms not numbers.
