Thread: Manipulating percentages.

Hi,

I appreciate any help you can give to this problem i have.

the end value must be no more than 100%

a = 70%
b = 10%
c = 10%

if i add all the values together i get 90%, which leaves 10%. this value CANNOT exceed a value that is being changed but the end value must add upto 100%

i want to change c to 20% so it all adds up to 100% but heres the problem...

i cant change c to 20% because the the value i got from adding all of the values together and taking away 100% is 10% and 20% is more than 10%

Sorry? I didn't understand, i think i've worked it out now.. Please could someone check, you may then understand what im trying to accomplish.


m = 100
a = 70
b = 10
c = 10

v = ((a + b + c) * 2)
y = (v - m)
x = (m - y)

x should = 20

No its still not working, I tried the values,

a = 70
b = 5
c = 5

and as the explanation in my first post, i cannot change 70 to 80 as the value i get back for the values above is, 40 (of which is above 80).. this is a complicated problem!

with your given equations for v, y and x

x does equal 20

What was the original question, what were you given, what were you asked to find?
