If you can perform mental arithmetic reasonably well, are aware of at least the existence of positive/negative integers, rationals, number zero, and "the rest", understand operator priority and have an open mind, then I believe you are ready to start Algebra.

Thanks guys I think I have more work to do then.

positive/negative integers So meaning -5 and so on?

Taking a look at rationals numbers now. Number Zero?

extension to patterns and generalisation? - August 9th 2011, 04:13 AMBacteriusRe: What is needed to be known to start on Algebra?
Well as Prove It said, know the properties of all the different number types, such knowing how to add two fractions (rational numbers), etc... Algebra really is just taking that knowledge and abstracting further by replacing some numbers with unknowns.

I can't write it all out again, but I'd advise you to have a read of the first couple of lessons of this:

Harry Potter Forums :: The Slug Club - Arithmancy Master Class (Private) :: HP Community & Forums

Basically the first couple of lessons demonstrate how algebra is just a shorthand way of writing the PROCESS that someone should follow. - August 9th 2011, 06:26 AMDanny180Re: What is needed to be known to start on Algebra?
Thank you guys!

Sorry to keep turning to this forum when I am indeed but I don't know anyone who knows Math haha. Untill College!

Arithmancy, is that not the alphabet? or am I mistaken? - August 9th 2011, 04:25 PMProve ItRe: What is needed to be known to start on Algebra?
