Equation involving both trigonometric and algebraic functions

How can one solve equations like this?

$\displaystyle (x+1)(tanx) = -1$

Re: Equation involving both trigonometric and algebraic functions

With a numerical method - I'd write the equation as $\displaystyle f(x) = (x+1)\tan(x) + 1 =0$ and look for where f(x) changes sign.
