If it already gave me x, and plugging the 2 in the function gives different answers for each function, what am I supposed to do with this?

First, this is a piecewise (-defined) function, not a "function inequality".

To find the function's value at x = 2, find which interval x is in... it's the middle one... $-1 < x < 5$
For every x in this interval, the function's value is 1.

Can you see which segment the value is on?

I asked because I didn't know what it was or how to deal with it. Thanks to thechaz, I'll go look up piecewise so I won't be dumbfounded the next time I see one.
