# Thread: John saved 2/7 of $560 and gave the rest to his mother and father in the ratio of 3:2 1. ## John saved 2/7 of$560 and gave the rest to his mother and father in the ratio of 3:2

John saved 2/7 of $560 and gave the rest to his mother and father in the ratio of 3:2. How much did the mother receive? 2/7x560 =$160
560-160 = $400 5 units =$400
1 unit = 400 divided by 5 = 80
3 units = 80x3 = $160 ANSWER =$160

Is this correct?

2. ## Re: Is this answer correct?

Your working is fine but check your arithmetic again. $80 \times 3 \neq 160$

3. ## Re: Is this answer correct?

Keep working on that "80 * 3".

I don't think you are in any danger!

6. ## Re: Is this answer correct?

Alternatively

the money is divided up between John, mother and father in the ratio 2:3:2
Hence the mother receives 3/7 of the money.
