Thread: Simplifications

Any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated. I need all the help I can get.

1) Simplify (2x+3)(x-4)
2) Solve 7 x (-3) x (-2)^2

for the first one follow this (a+b)(c+d) = ac+ad+bc+bd

What do you get?

Solve 7 x (-3) x (-2)^2

Remember to follow the Order of Operations: PEMDAS.

So the exponentiation should be done first here, followed by the multiplications.

Remember that squaring a number is the same as multiplying it by itself. So when you square -2, you get (-2)(-2)=4.
