Write an equation of the line
I have been working on these problems forever and keep getting stuck toward the end where I am to add to the fraction (Headbang). Can someone please help me solve with the proper steps (in y=mx+b form)?
Write an equation of the line containing the given pointand parallel to the given line:
(5, -7); 2x - 9y = 7

The equation of the line is y= ???

2x - 9y = 7 is equivalent to 9y = 2x - 7, i.e. y = 2x/9 - 7/9. Since the line we need to determine is parallel to this equation, the slope must be 2/9.
Use y - y_1 = m(x - x_1), where m is the slope and (x_1, y_1) is the point contained in the line.
y - -7 = 2/9 (x - 5) = 2x/9 - 10/9, hence y + 7 = 2x/9 - 10/9. Therefore y = 2x/9 - 10/9 - 7 = 2x/9 - 73/9.
