Simplification with an Unknown
Hi all,

I'm trying to simplify t = [tex]\frac{(3b * 4)}{2b}[\MATH]

In my head it simplifies to 3b*2, but the answer is 6?

Thx,
D

Use the [Tex] tags; Latex hasn't been working for a while.

$\frac{3b\times~4}{2b}$

Writing '4' as 2x2, we have:

$=\frac{3\times b\times 2\times 2}{2\times b}$

Just rearranged slightly for clarity:

$=\frac{2\times b\times 2 \times 3}{2 \times b}$

Just cancel like terms from here.

$=6$

Where did you go wrong, exactly?
