    Simultaneous equations.

    These 2 simultaneous equations have come up on a practise mock GCSE paper and i wondered if you could help me and tell me how to do because i really don't get how to do them:

    Solve the following pair of simultaneous equations.
    Do not use a trial and improvement method.
    3x + y = 9
    4x - 2y = 7

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi;
    multiply the first equation by 2 giving 6x + 2y =18 now solve them together using elimination method

    6x + 2y + 4x -2y = 18 + 7 ( y eliminated)

    10x = 25
    x = 2.5

    7.5 + y =9
    y = 1.5
