# Math Help - root of a root

1. ## root of a root

Hi;
I've not come across this before what does sqrtsqrt25 mean?

Thanks.

2. Switching to exponential notation makes it more clear.

[25^(½)]^(½) = 25^(½*½) = 25^(¼) -- The fourth rooth of 25.

or

[25^(½)]^(½) = 5^(½) -- The square root of 5.

3. Ok thanks for that do you know any websites where i an learn about these.
What is this process called

You need to learn rational exponents.

Since the 'inner' square root gives you 5, I would have thought it was simply sqrt(5) .....

6. Yeah thanks guys I had thought that it would be inner root then outer root I was just checking as I only had my first very quick look at this root in a root but had to go out just needed confirmation.
