    fill in the blanks: p(x)=8x^7+7x^8+2x^4+9x^9
    the degree of p is_______ the value of p(-1) is______

    The degree is the highest exponent.

    p(-1) = 8(-1)^7 + 7(-1)^8 + 2(-1)^4+9(-1)^9

    Do that and you get the answer.
