Thread: Complex number equation

The question:
Verify (-1 + i)^7 = -8(1 + i) both directly and using the polar form.

I know how to verify this via polar form, but I'm not sure what they mean by verifying it "directly". Does this mean via binomial expansion? Thanks!

By directly, I think they mean by expanding the LHS.

Does this mean via binomial expansion?
