you are correct. it is approx. 25 cents each.

2. Tom, Bill, Susan, and Sandy went bowling. Tom's score was 132, Bill's score was 140, Susan scored 145 and Sandy's score was 128. What was the average score of all four bowlers ?

I think the answer is 550, but i am not sure.
that is incorrect.

how do we find the average?
$\mbox { Average Score } = \frac { \mbox { Sum of all the scores }}{ \mbox { The number of scores }}$

3. Robert bought a used automobile for 1,500.00. If the sales tax is 5%, what would be the total that Robert had to pay for the automobile ?

I am not sure of answer at all.
Robert would pay 105% of the cars price.

Remember, "percent" means "out of 100" and "of" means "multiply" in math.

so "105% of 1500" means
$\frac {105}{100} \times 1500 =$?

3. just making sure i did this correct.
So the answer to number 2 would be : 136. 25
is that correct ?

And the answer to number 3 would be : 15. 75 %
is that correct ?

you are correct for the average, but jus how did you get a percentage for number 3. and how did you get 15.75? i gave you the equation to use, and the answer should be a dollar amount, not a percentage

I'm sorry I meant to put $15 .75 & thanks for all of your help. 6. Originally Posted by misz infamouz I'm sorry I meant to put$15 .75

that is still incorrect. the car costs 1500, he actually pays 5% MORE, how could he pay 15.75? that's a lot less

the answer is $1,575.00 7. thank you soo much. 8. Originally Posted by misz infamouz 1. Soft drinks are on sale at the grocery store for$2.99 for a twelve pack. How much would each can of soft drink cost if purchased individually ?

Well number one! Well your close! All you have to do is divide 2.99 into 12, and what do you get? 24, therefore their 24 cent's each =]

Second question: Tom's score was 132, Bill's score was 140, Susan scored 145 and Sandy's score was 128.
Well you could go: 132 + 140 + 145 + 128 and that equals 545, but someone correct me if i'm wrong!

Thirdly: Robert bought a used automobile for 1,500.00. If the sales tax is 5%, what would be the total that Robert had to pay for the automobile ?

you can simply go like this: grab a calculator and do it with me: poke in 1,500 00 and press X then put 5 and press the percentage button but don't press = because the answer would still have come up! Please someone correct me if i'm wrong!

you actually get 24.9, which we round of to 25 cents. so 25 cents is fine. it's closer to the true answer than 24

you are wrong. you would have to divide your answer by 4 to get the average

i already gave the solution to this. i want the poster to know what it means to find the percentage manually, so i dislike this: "just plug it into your calculator" method. i have no idea whether it's correct or not. my calculator is weird, it doesn't work like everyone else's does
