    x + y = 300

    4x + 6y = 1380

now have her solve the system of equations for x and y

It asked for an expression to illustrate the number off seats which was x + y = 300 then for an expression for the cost of the seats which was 4x + 6y= 1380, then we got stuck!

Let's see if we do the following. Multiply the first equation by 4.

    4 \times (x + y) = 4 \times 300

    4x + 4y = 1200 ......... (1)

    We also know:

    4x + 6y = 1380 ......... (2)

What happens if we subtract (1) from (2) ?
