x + y = 300

4x + 6y = 1380

now have her solve the system of equations for x and y

3. Hi thanks for that she got that part its the next part she cant get

Sandra

Sandra
show what she has done so far ...

5. It asked for an expression to illustrate the number off seats which was x + y = 300 then for an expression for the cost of the seats which was 4x + 6y= 1380, then we got stuck!

Let's see if we do the following. Multiply the first equation by 4.

$4 \times (x + y) = 4 \times 300$

$4x + 4y = 1200$ ......... (1)

We also know:

$4x + 6y = 1380$ ......... (2)

What happens if we subtract (1) from (2) ?

7. Thank you so simple when you see it , my maths days are long ago so a bit rusty
