    Equations involving brackets

    There is a total of 25 horses and hens on a farm, and in total they have 70 legs. write an equation and solve it to find how many there are of each animal.

    Stuck on this question, and help would be great

    You should know that there are 2 legs for every hen and 4 legs for every horse. You will have an equation for the number of animals and an equation for the number of legs.

    Start by identifying your symbols: let "a" mean the number of horses and "b" mean the number of hens. If you knew a and b, how would you find the total number of animals? If you knew a and b how would you find the total number of legs?
