What do I need in my modules as a percentage?

Basically, I can't do maths. So I'm asking you to please help me work out some percentage magic on my modules. I want to find out what I need in my 3 exams I have in percentage terms, to get an overall 40% module grade +.

Module 1 - 50% of the module is weighted on an essay, I had 65%. The other 50% is the exam. How much do I need in the exam to get the minimum 40% overall?

Module 2 - 25% essay = 56% mark. 25% essay 2 - 60% mark.
50% Exam.

10% exam - 80% result.
50% essay - 65% result
40% exam -..

Mod 1

You have 65% 0f 50 which gives 32.5 of the 40 required.

Mod 2

You have 56% of 25 = 14%
You have 60% of 25 = 15%

of the 40 required.

So in Mod 1 I need 7.5% to get 40% min, and in Mod 2 I need 11%?

Mod 3... I already have 40% so I can fail the exam and still pass?

Since the two are equally "weighted" this is a straight average of the two: letting x be your score on the exam, (65+ x)/2= 40 so 64+ x= 80, x= 80- 65= 15%.
Notice that (65+ x)/2= (1/2)65+ (1/2)x= (50%)65+ (50%)x= (.5)65+ (.5)x= 40

This is a "25%, 25%, 50% weighted average": .25(56)+ .25(60)+ .50x= 40 (assuming your objective is the same 40% as in the first one).
.25(56)= 14 and .25(60)= 15 so you have 14+ 15+ .50x= 29+ .50x= 40, .50x= 40-29= 11, x= 2(11)= 22.

.10(80)+ .50(65)+ .40x= 40
.10(80)= 8 and .50(65)= 32.5 so .10(80)+ .50(65)= 8+ 32.5+ .40x= 40.5+ .40x.= 40 which would give a negative value of x. Yes, you could fail the exam and still (unless your teach has a "you must at least pass each part in order to get a passing grade" policy which is certainly possible). I hope, though, that you are not asking "what is the least posssible amount of work I can do"!
