    New User - Help questionse misc

    Hello i am a new user Fosky!

    Currently starting my 9 out of 13 week program in TPP for university, im now starting to struggle this course mainly due to algebra, as the course is ment to be tricky and hard its mostly worded difficult which i have problems. i will leave some information about my question and what i already know so far.

    A. Farmer has 6 horses 7 cows @ 2500$
    B. Farmer bought 1 horse 13 cows @ 2310$

    I know Horse cost 230 each and cows cost 160. but i didnt exactly use algebra to find this out, and im stuck on how to write a formula to figure this out.

    6h + 7c = 2500 *same as* 6 x h + 7 x c = 2500

    but this is still just a basic formula which i cant use to work out the answer.
    any working out help and general information how i can learn to become better at algebra is apreciated. I dont mind being pointed in the right direction for reading!

    Thankyou very much for time and help

    Fosky

    P.S if i was a bit unclear, my goal is to have a Formula that will work out the prices of the animals if i didnt already know the cost of either

    Let the price of horses = h and cows be c, as you've done so far.

    1) 6h + 7c = 2500, as you've worked out. Look at the second piece of price information, and you will see that:

    2) h + 13c = 2310

    Times equation 2) by 6:
    3) 6h + 78c = 13860

    Equation 3) - Equation 1)

    71c = 11360

    c = \frac{11360}{71}

    = 160

    I'm sure you can take it from there easily enough.

    You are given 6h+7c = 2500 and h + 13c = 2310

    Solve simultaneously, I would do it from eliminating h

    h + 13c = 2310 \implies h = 2310 - 13c

    Sub this into the first equation

    6(2310-13c) + 7c = 2500 which is linear in c
