Distance Rate Time Problem- Math 011 Quadratics
During the first part of a trip, Carol travels 200 km at a certain speed. For the next 150 km she travels 5 km/h faster. If she took 2 hours and 52 minutes to complete her 350 km trip, what was her speed in each leg of her journey?

Any assistance is soo appreciated, im really desperate for any kind of help here :) (Heart)

The time she takes to cover the first trip is given by:

$\displaystyle t_1 = \dfrac{200}{v}$

where v is the speed.

The time she took for th second trip is given by:

$\displaystyle t_2 = \dfrac{150}{v + 5}$

Total, $\displaystyle t_1 + t_2 = 2h\ 35\ min = \frac{31}{12}\ h$

Can you solve this by substituting t1 and t2 in the last equation, for v and then you find v + 5 km/h
