    You know there are 60 seconds in a minute. If sound travels 331.6 meters per second, then it must travel 331.6 \times 60 meters in a minute, hence 331.6 \times 60 \mathbf{\times 2} meters in two minutes.

    That gives us a speed of 39792 meters per two minutes.

    Now 1 mile is equivalent to \mathbf{1609} meters, so how many miles make up for 39792 meters ? You set up an equation 39792 = \mathbf{1609}d where d is the distance in miles, because \mathbf{1609} times the number of miles gives the distance in meters. Divide each side by \mathbf{1609}, and you obtain :

    d = \frac{39792}{\mathbf{1609}} = 24.7 miles.

    Therefore, in two minutes, sound travels about 24.7 miles.
