# Math Help - Evaluating..

1. ## Evaluating..

4. 3x(x-2) If x=6

5. 4x - y If x = 3 and y = 2. There is a line btw 4x and 3x like a fraction line :s
3x - y

Pic above shows the problems

2. What have you tried?

4. Just substitute in 6 where ever there is an x. Then solve.

5. The same thing, where ever there is an x, substitute in 3 and for y, substitute in 2.

Ok so..
4. 36(6-2)
5. 42-2=40
33-2=31
Do you simplify?

4. They are not correct.

Whenever there is a number beside a letter, it means multiply.

So for number 4 it's $3 \times x \times (x-2)$

5. 4. 3 x 6(6-2) ?

Yes, and now you are expected to simplify this to get a single number as the final answer.

7. 4. 3 x 6(6-2) = 72
5. 4 x 3 - 2 =10
3 x 3 -2 =7

Correct?

8. Hi

Yes the first one is correct at 72.

For the second you are almost there, what you should have is:

$\frac{4x-y}{3x-y} = \frac{(4 *3)-2}{(3*3)-2} = \frac{12-2}{9-2} = \frac{10}{7} \equiv 1\tfrac{3}{7} \equiv 1.429$

Hope this helps
