Thread: Quick Question! Solving eq with Pwer (eg. ^5)

There is this question I have been trying to get my head around, and cant seem to get it! Its trying to find 'G':

19x=9x(1+G)^5


So I do,

18/9=(1+G)^5
2=(1+g)^5

But I am completely lost as to what to do next because of the power sign. I have tried to read the stick posts but not being a numerical person, they just confuse me more.

any pointers?

Oh sorry and I should have said the answer is g=14.87

But I just dont know how to get their!

Is it meant to be 19 or 18?

The first step in solving 2 = (1 + g)^5 is to take the fifth root of both sides: 2^(1/5) = 1 + g.
