    Let the speed of Jose be v mph

    The speed of Kayla is then (v + 35) mph

    The distance covered by Jose is given by the product of his speed and the time elapsed.

    Distance = v \times (2.1 + 1.2)

    Kayla travelled the same distance, but in a shorter period of time and the distance is given by:

    Distance = (v+35)(1.2)

    The distances are equal somce they started at the same point and meet at the same later point. We get:

    v (2.1 + 1.2)= (v+35)(1.2)

    Solve for v and post what you get!
