1. speed problem

Hi all;
I've got a problem thst I can't solve please point me in the right direction.

Jose left the airport and travelled towards the mountains. Kayla left 2.1 hours later travelling 35mph faster trying to catch up after 1.2 hours Kayla finally caught up.Find Jose average speed?

2. Let the speed of Jose be v mph

The speed of Kayla is then (v + 35) mph

The distance covered by Jose is given by the product of his speed and the time elapsed.

$Distance = v \times (2.1 + 1.2)$

Kayla travelled the same distance, but in a shorter period of time and the distance is given by:

$Distance = (v+35)(1.2)$

The distances are equal somce they started at the same point and meet at the same later point. We get:

$v (2.1 + 1.2)= (v+35)(1.2)$

Solve for v and post what you get!
