Can anyone please show me the easiest way to work this equation out ?

Divide both sides by 6:

[6(x-3)]/6 = [12]/6

to get:

x-3 = 2

Now add three to both sides:

[x-3]+3 = [2]+3

to get:

x = 5

or 6x -18 =12
or 6x =12 +18
or 6x =30
or x =30/6
or x =5
