1. ## fraction simplify question

If I have sin( $Pi$ $x$)/cos( $Pi$ $x$)

I know that I cannot cancel the( $Pi$ $x$) on the top and bottom, but in words what is the reason for this? because sin/cos is not defined?

Thanks

$\displaystyle \frac{\sin(\pi x)}{\cos(\pi x)} = \tan(\pi x)$

the arguments for trig functions are not "cancelable" ... yes, $\frac{\sin}{\cos}$ has no meaning.
