1. ## fraction simplify question

If I have sin($\displaystyle Pi$$\displaystyle x)/cos(\displaystyle Pi$$\displaystyle x$)

I know that I cannot cancel the($\displaystyle Pi$$\displaystyle x) on the top and bottom, but in words what is the reason for this? because sin/cos is not defined? Thanks 2. $\displaystyle \displaystyle \frac{\sin(\pi x)}{\cos(\pi x)} = \tan(\pi x)$

the arguments for trig functions are not "cancelable" ... yes, $\displaystyle \frac{\sin}{\cos}$ has no meaning.

3. Thanks!
