# Math Help - to find the fraction

1. ## to find the fraction

Please anybody can help me to get solution.

Noel needed money to buy computer game and he get the money from his father, his older sister and the rest from his mother..

What fration of the money doed he get from his mother?

With many thanks
Pol

2. This seems like a somewhat strange question, as we are given no numbers.

Let f be the amount of money Noel gets from his father, let s be what he gets from his sister, and let m be the amount of money he gets from his mother. The the fraction of money he got from his mother is

$\frac{m}{f+s+m}$

3. Another way to do this: let c be the cost of the computer, f and s the money borrowed from his father and sister, respectively. Then the amount borrowed from his mother is c- f- s so the fraction is $\frac{c- f- s}{c}= 1- \frac{f}{c}- \frac{s}{c}$.

4. ## to get fraction

1/2 + 1/3 + x = 1

find x

6. In that case, HallsofIvy's formula is very fitting. Compared to the total price of the computer, you are being told that the father gives Noel half the money. This means exactly that f/c is 1/2.

7. the father gives 50% or 1/2 the sister gives .3333~ or 1/3 so just need to add these together to then subtract it from the whole
1/2 + 1/3 = then take that away from the form of 1 you get from the denomenators number...Answer - 1/1 = what percent his mother gave.
