the square just means we multiply the number by itself. so what number is (3 - 6)? furthermore, what number do we get when we multiply that number by itself?

    -2(3 - 6)^2 - (-2) = -2(-3)^2 + 2

    = -2(9) + 2

    = -18 + 2

    = -16
