# Math Help - Miscellaneous questions.

1. ## Miscellaneous questions.

I have an exam on tuesday and if i fail i will repeat the same grade so i really need your help with some questions.. I need the answers and working out also:

NOTE: They are not 'all' algebra

1) Work out 7-5x(6-1).
2) Tiago's father buys a car for $18500. During the first year its value falls by 20%. Calculate its value at the end of the first year, 3) Tiago buys a bicycle for$ 240.
During the first year it loses 13/40 of its value.
Calculate its value at the end of the first year.
4) The nth term of a sequence is given by the formula
n2(squared)
------- (over)
n+1

find (i) the 9th term,
(ii) the 99th term

Thank you.

2. For the first one all you need to know if how to expand brackets and collect like terms:

$7-5x(6-1)$

$7- 30x +5x$

$7 -25x$

For the second one all you need to know is how much 20% of 18500 dollars is:

$18500 * \frac{20}{100}$

$= 3700$

So $18500 -3700 = 14800$

Number three is very much the same as number 2

3. For the first one the correct answer is -18 (the teacher told me) but i don't understand how she got that. I got plenty of answers but never that one. And it is not x as in ex its the multiplying sign

4. Sorry, you should use * instead..

ok so...
$7-5*(6-1)$

Remember BODMAS (or BIDMAS) or whatever it is? Brackets first!

$7-5*(5)$

Multiplication before subtraction

$7-25$

Now simple subtraction

$-18$

Does that make it more clear?

5. Yes thank you very much
