18 years is really 6 times the three year period the 50% increase occured in.

    So after the first 3 years 2,000\times 1.5 = 3,000

    So after the next 3 years 2,000\times 1.5 \times 1.5= 2,000\times 1.5 ^2=\dots

    After another 3 years 2,000\times 1.5 \times 1.5\times 1.5= 2,000\times 1.5 ^3= \dots

    See any pattern?

    Surely it's just 2000 * (1.5)^(18/3).
