1. ## Solve for Y/x

I am unsure how to type everything to show up the correct way so I used paint:

These are two seperate problems and I do not know where to start.

2. $\displaystyle \frac{5+y}{2y}= \frac{7}{6}$

$\displaystyle 6(5+y)= 7(2y)$

$\displaystyle 30+6y= 14y$

Can you finish this?

$\displaystyle \frac{2}{x^2+8x+16}= \frac{5}{x^2-16}$

$\displaystyle \frac{2}{(x+4)(x+4)}= \frac{5}{(x+4)(x-4)}$

$\displaystyle \frac{2}{x+4}= \frac{5}{x-4}$

$\displaystyle 2(x-4)= 5(x+4)$

Now finish it like the first example.

3. Thanks I finished problem 1 with ease. As for the 2nd problem, I understand all the steps you took but I do not know how to continue it.

Edit actually I set it up like the following:

2x - 8 = 5x + 20 and for some reason I keep doing it and not getting the right answer.

4. $2x - 8 = 5x + 20$

$2x - 8 +8= 5x + 20+8$

$2x= 5x + 28$

$-3x= 28$

$x= \frac{ 28}{-3}$

5. Thanks, I understand that now I was dividing the numbers that had a variable, and yeah... that was getting me no where lol. Anyways thanks again!
