    \displaystyle \frac{5+y}{2y}= \frac{7}{6}

    \displaystyle 6(5+y)= 7(2y)

    \displaystyle 30+6y= 14y

    Can you finish this?

    \displaystyle \frac{2}{x^2+8x+16}= \frac{5}{x^2-16}

    \displaystyle \frac{2}{(x+4)(x+4)}= \frac{5}{(x+4)(x-4)}

    \displaystyle \frac{2}{x+4}= \frac{5}{x-4}

    \displaystyle 2(x-4)= 5(x+4)

    Now finish it like the first example.

    Thanks I finished problem 1 with ease. As for the 2nd problem, I understand all the steps you took but I do not know how to continue it.

    Edit actually I set it up like the following:

    2x - 8 = 5x + 20 and for some reason I keep doing it and not getting the right answer.

    2x - 8 = 5x + 20

    2x - 8 +8= 5x + 20+8

    2x= 5x + 28

    -3x=  28

    x= \frac{ 28}{-3}
