[SOLVED] restricting domains and ranges.

I have to draw a picture using conic structures and lines, my question is this...

How do I restrict my range or domain of lines, parabolas, ect. so that they do not go on forever?

This question seems a bit peculiar, have you left something out, maybe you
have some particular piece of software in mind?
