no it isn't, x = -2, you plugged in x = 3 for 5x

ok, we have 5x + (3x)^2 and we want to evaluate it when x = -2. this simply means that we replace x with -2 wherever we see it in the formula.

5x + (3x)^2 = 5(-2) + (3*-2)^2
.................= -10 + (-6)^2
.................= -10 + 36
.................= 26
