Thread: percentage

Hi, i know this sounds like a daft question but i wanted to know the following....

If i have a exam which is worth 50% pass mark...
what is the MINIMUM mark to get in this exam to pass?

i hope someone can help me...as i was asked this question and was totally clueless!!!

I would appreciate it if someone can also be able to show how they actually work it out?

It seems to me that you're only giving us a grain of sand when the problem involves the entire beach.

Where you say "If I have an exam which is worth 50% pass mark" are you saying that your exam constitutes 50% of the final grade? Or are you saying that you need 50% on the exam to pass?

In either case, you need to tell us how many questions are on your exam. You also need to tell us the percentage of marks you already have towards this subject.

Hi, first of all thanks for replying much appreciated....

well we have one exam which consists of 4 papers which are:

1st paper
MCQ = 1/2 hour = 15 marks
written = 1:30 hours = 35 marks

2ns paper
MCQ = 1/2 hour = 15 marks
written = 1:30 hours = 35 marks

We have to achieve 50% in the assessment (i.e the combined marks from all four papers in order to pass)

I have no percentage of marks already towards this subject.

Well, there is a total of 100 marks in all of the four papers. 50% of that is 50 marks. So, you need to have at least 50 marks in all to pass the assessment.
